Chargers appear to be keeping an eye on Georgia TE ahead of NFL Draft

The Los Angeles Chargers may have an elite tight end prospect on their radar ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft on April 25-27.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Georgia TE Brock Bowers is visiting with the Chargers on Wednesday after meeting with the Chicago Bears and New York Jets earlier this week.

In three seasons at Georgia, Bowers twice won the John Mackey Award, given to the best TE in college football. ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller rates the 21-year-old as the No. 10 prospect in this draft class and compares him to San Francisco 49ers five-time Pro Bowl TE George Kittle.

"The perfect tight end for the modern NFL game, Bowers has game-changing after-the-catch ability and has even lined up at tailback for the Bulldogs on occasion," wrote Miller. "In his three seasons of play, he had 26 touchdown catches (plus five more scores on the ground) while averaging 14.5 yards per reception."

While Bowers is talented, the Chargers could consider taking a wide receiver with the fifth overall pick instead, perhaps Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. or LSU's Malik Nabers. L.A. needs a bonafide No. 1 wideout after it dealt six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears in March.

Still, Bowers could also help the Chargers reboot their passing game, giving quarterback Justin Herbert another reliable target.

If the Chargers want to take Bowers, they could stand pat or move down. In his latest mock draft, Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News has them trading down to the seventh slot (Tennessee Titans) and selecting the Bulldogs standout.

This could be a great first choice for new head coach Jim Harbaugh, who's trying to revamp the team after it went 5-12 last season.
