PLAYERS: Jermain Taylor

Friday night saw the next chapter of Jermain Taylor's boxing comeback story.  We weren't able to cover it love here at BoxingWatchers, but DVR makes it possible for the next best thing.  Here's the round by round recap of the middleweight bout between Taylor and Truax.

Note: I'm watching this fight for the first time while I write this.

Caleb Truax is undefeated with a record of 19-0-1 with 10 KOs.  Jermain Taylor is 29-4-1 with 18 KOs. Both fighters look to be in excellent shape for the fight.

Here we go.

Round 1:
Jermain's form looks to be unchanged.  His hands are high as the left bounces from his chest to his chin.  His hands are always bouncing, which is vintage Taylor.  He launches a couple jabs.  Both fighters are cautious.  Truax lands a jab of his own.  Nothing but jabs coming from both fighters.  Jermain barely misses a left uppercut.  Taylor misses with a right hook.  Taylor was busier in round 1 which should get him the point.

Parker: 10-9 Taylor

Round 2:
Taylor lands a quick right hook to counter Truax.  Taylor goes back to the jab now.  Truax isn't busy enough to land anything.  If this keeps up, it's going to be Taylor all day.  Taylor lands a right hand right behind the jab.  Truax lands his jab again.  Another round for Taylor.

Parker: 10-9 Taylor

Round 3:
Truax throws and lands his jab early.  Taylor counters a jab with a right.  Taylor lands a three-punch combo, but most of it was blocked.  Taylor lands the best punch of the fight with a nice overhand right.  Truax throws a counter right hand.  He gets inside and lands a left upstairs.  Taylor is letting his hands go now and lads a three punch combo up top.  Truax lands a left.  Taylor lands a big right.  Both fighters are strictly headhunting.

Parker: 10-9 Taylor

Round 4:
Lots more jabs in round 4.  Truax gets inside and lands a left upstairs.  Jermain walked right into a left.  Truax lands a big left and now a right.  Jermain is there to be hit, which was his problem throughout his decline.  Taylor lets his hands go now and lands three punches to the body.  Taylor lands a left to the body.  Close round, but I have to give it to Truax.

Parker: 10-9 Truax

Round 5:
Taylor looks to impress the judges by throwing more power shots.  The right hand is throwing more now.  Taylor lands a lead uppercut and just misses with a leftt hook that followed.  Truax lands a right hand to the body and a left hook to the head.  Truax lands a left, but Taylor answers with a four-punch combo.

Parker: 10-9 Taylor

Round 6:
Truax catches Taylor off-balance with a left hand.  Now he lands a right uppercut on the inside.  Truax lands a nice right hook and Taylor clinches.  Truax lands stiff jab.  This round is Truax's.  Both fighters are clinching a lot more now.  They don't look to be getting tired.

Parker: 10-9 Truax

Round 7:
Truax lands a big right hand at the beginning of the round.  Taylor covers up.  Taylor answers with a double jab.  Taylor lands a nice right hand that causes Truax to clinch.  Taylor launches four punches to the body, but they were blocked.  This round has been a clinch-fest.  Truax lands another right hand...and another.  Close round.

Parker: 10-9 Truax

Round 8:
Truax gets in and lands a left and a right.  Taylor throws two punches to the body, but Truax blocks them.  Truax lands a jab and a straight right.  They colide heads while coming inside.  No cuts were opened.  Taylor lands a right uppercut, and it causes him to step on the gas.  He's throwing power shots now.  Taylor lands a nice left hand before the bell.

Parker: 10-9 Taylor

Round 9:
Truax lands a lince right hook to kick off the round.  Truax lands a big right hook and Taylor goes down hard.  He's hurt.  He makes it up, but he's wobbly.  Truax goes forward and tries to end the show.  2 minutes left in the round.  He's grabbing and wobbly.  He clinches again.  1 minute 45 left.  Taylor is grabbing like crazy.  Truax lands a huge left.  Taylor holds again.  Taylor is still hurt.  Truax needs to get out of the clinches.  Taylor is back to punching now.  Truax lands a big right hand.  Truax couldn't finish.

Parker: 10-8 Truax

Round 10:
Truax pushes the action.  Taylor goes back to jabbing.  Taylor lands a left hand.  He's just clinching now.  Truax lands a left.  Taylor lands a right.  Taylor lands an uppercut.  Taylor lands a three punch combo.  Truax barely misses with a right.  Ugh, nothing but clinching going on here.  Taylor should be warned for excessive holding here.  Truax landed a left at the end.

Parker: 10-9 Truax

Parker: 95-94 Truax

The judges score the bout 98-91, 97-92 and 97-94 all for the winner by unanimous decision Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor
