Michael Johnson: Slave descendants have 'superior athletic gene'

Retired Olympic sprinter Michael Johnson believes there is a scientific reason that explains why so many of the top sprinters in the world are black. The four-time gold medalist, now a commentator for BBC, believes slave descendants have genes that make them superior athletes.
"All my life I believed I became an athlete through my own determination, but it’s impossible to think that being descended from slaves hasn’t left an imprint through the generations," Johnson said on a documentary called "Michael Johnson: Survival Of The Fastest," according to the Daily Mail.
"Difficult as it was to hear, slavery has benefited descendants like me – I believe there is a superior athletic gene in us."
According to the Daily Mail, some scientists support that notion. Their report states that only the fittest and strongest African people were picked to board the slave ships. Once aboard the ships, conditions were so terrible that only the strongest/healthiest/fittest people of an already select group survived. Additionally, the Daily Mail says some scientists believe that some slave owners selectively bred to create even stronger and more athletic people, which set the groundwork for dominant athletes decades later.
The documentary states that 14 of the 15 100-meter finalists at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing were descendants of slaves. Johnson is of West African descent, a DNA test confirmed.
The former "world's fastest man" recognizes this is a controversial subject matter, but that doesn't prevent him from exploring it.
"It’s a taboo subject in the States but it is what it is. Why shouldn’t we discuss it?" he wonders.
In 1988, Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder posited that:
"The black is a better athlete to begin with because he's been bred to be that way, because of his high thighs and big thighs that goes up into his back, and they can jump higher and run faster because of their bigger thighs and he's bred to be the better athlete because this goes back all the way to the Civil War when during the slave trade'n the big… the owner… the slave owner would breed his big black to his big woman so that he could have a big black kid see."
He was fired in 1988 by CBS for the comments.
Below is a clip teasing the documentary, which aired last week on Channel 4 in the U.K.

...and Jimmy the Greek got fired for saying the same thing... is this a great country or what?
-
He was fired not because what he said,it was how he said it.Animsls are "bred",not people.
-
Semantics my friend. At the time black men and women were treated like animals. And since they didnt necessarily have a relationship of any kind with each other then "bred" was a more accurate term. However, it was an abominable thing that the white people (of that time) did. We don't do that anymore so it's about time people let it go.

white people? iwould think you mean slave owners. cause im a white people and i know for a fact that no one in my family has now or ever owned slaves. that statement is like calling a group of AA you people.
-
I think it's great that a slave descender actually says I have benefited from being a slave descendant. I don't be-leave in slavery but at every place of employment I hear so much trash talk about what the whites owe them. I'm wondering about what my family is owed. My great grandfather and his father walked off the farm to fight for the freedom of the blacks. also my daughter once asked me what Ni**r means, she overheard a group of young blacks calling each other this.
-
what was your answer?
-
I told her that that word is a sign of ignorance, and that it is used as a greeting by the most ignorant people, black or white and her great great grandfather fought against that ignorance.
-
I think that was very noble of your father and grandfather to fight but are you sure it was specifically for the freedom of blacks? The Union army was not fighting exclusively for the freedom of the American Blacks. And as for the black kids calling each other niggas not *******, they are ignorant and this is the direct result of slavery and racism that continues today. It is funny that you mention ignorance, ask yourself, how often does our public school system mandate a honest and truthful history and account of American history? The good and the bad. Most Americans are ignorant, right!

We are all alike on the inside! And God made us all one race of men! No this race and that race He only sees the race of men!
I donot beleive that anybody is genetically better than another but I do think that it makes us a strong people! We just must break the brands of oppression through education, empowerment, work ethic, collective work and responsibility.
Where is the 40 acres in a mule that was promised us by the federal government at Emancipation? I donot beleive that Slavery is an excuse for under acheivement, lack of a work ethic , but the reality is that African Americans in this country or still psychologiclly, social, and economicly dealign with some of the effects of slavery! ,Do your reseach? elohim70,
Lynchburg was named for John Lynch who founded the city in 1757. John Lynch owned the ferry, which transported people and supplies across the James River. When Lynchburg was chartered (and named) it was considered one of the top three wealthiest cities in the U.S. Why were you under the impression that this wealthy city named Lynchburg after Willie Lynch? And, likewise, the term “lynching” was not named for or by Willie Lynch.
I am only familiar with the one letter read by Willie Lynch on the bank of the James River (Virginia) in 1712. The letter stated that the secret to running a plantation was to pit the slaves against one another. Although plantation owners may have done this as the letter stated, the letter itself is widely regarded by historians as a hoax. It is regarded as a hoax because it contains anachronisms (“refueling” and “fool proof”) that weren’t used in the 1700’s. In the past, Louis Farrakhan has referred to Lynch’s letter; although, that doesn’t make the letter genuine. However, if you choose to believe the letter is genuine, wouldn’t the black plantation owners have done the same thing? According to Frederick Douglass, the black plantation owners were as bad if not worse than the white owners. If you’re not familiar with Frederick Douglass, he was a black slave abolitionist.
There’s a significant difference between Douglass’ work and Lynch’s letter. Douglas’ work surfaced during his lifetime. The plantation owners he exposed were still living when his work surfaced. The facts in his book could be verified, which proved to be very embarrassing and very damaging to the pro-slavery movement. Further, Douglass spent his entire life fighting slavery and was therefore a prominent abolitionist. On the other hand, Lynch’s letter didn’t surface until the early 1970’s and wasn’t widely circulated until the 1990’s. In addition, Willie Lynch wasn’t a prominent abolitionist. That doesn’t mean the letter he allegedly read wasn’t genuine, but in my opinion it does make Douglass’ testimonies about slavery more credible. So, I said all that to say if I were going to take a history lesson on slavery, I’d rather invest my time with Douglass.

Who Brought the Slaves to America -
The story of the slaves in America begins with Christopher Columbus.
http://www.iamthewitness.com/books/Walter.White/Who.Brought.the.Slaves.to.America.htm
His voyage to America was not financed by Queen Isabella, but by Luis de Santangelo, who advanced the sum of 17,000 ducats (about 5,000 pounds-today equal to 50,000 pounds) to finance the voyage, which began on August 3, 1492.
Columbus was accompanied by five 'maranos' (Jews who had foresworn their religion and supposedly became Catholics), Luis de Torres, interpreter, Marco, the surgeon, Bemal, the physician, Alonzo de la Calle and Gabriel Sanchez

Slavery in Africa, the institution of slavery as it existed in Africa, and the effects of world slave-trade systems on African people and societies. As in most of the world, slavery, or involuntary human servitude, was practiced across Africa from prehistoric times to the modern era. When people today think of slavery, many envision the form in which it existed in the United States before the American Civil War (1861-1865): one racially identifiable group owning and exploiting another. However, in other parts of the world, slavery has taken many different forms. In Africa, many societies recognized slaves merely as property, but others saw them as dependents who eventually might be integrated into the families of slave owners. Still other societies allowed slaves to attain positions of military or administrative power. Most often, both slave owners and slaves were black Africans, although they were frequently of different ethnic groups. Traditionally, African slaves were bought to perform menial or domestic labor, to serve as wives or concubines, or to enhance the status of the slave owner.

I don't hear anybody telling the Jews to let go of the holocaust...Why do black people have to let go of the horrors the slave masters put them through...
-
Jews aren't told to let go of the holocaust because there are still Jews living today that survived the holocaust. And the jewish people don't keep throwing it up in everyone's face, and playing the perpetual victim. All the slaves that survived the horrors of slavery are deceased. No black alive today has suffered the "horrors the slave masters put them through". It's time to let it go and stop playing the victim.
-
You must be really ignorant, I am sorry to say . Descendants of Black slaves have always experienced the negative impact of slavery even to this day. Millions of slaves died in transit and on plantations. Because of projection, Blacks (especially darker skin Blacks) are not respected, or treated like how individuals from other racial background are treated on television, employment, and by law enforcement. You have to always dig a little deeper before posting such statement. Do some research, then you probably might become a little more objective.

Didn't black men sell other black men to the whites as slaves when they came here in boats to find cheap labor??
-
are you trying to say that slavery lasted for centuries for hundreds of years with blacks enslaving blacks and only ended after the white man got involved. how many whites dies fighting against slavery in the unites states AND HOW MANY BLACKS DIED FIGHTING IT IN AFRICA as the black was selling them to each other. lets face facts slavery was a part of black culture that was ended by the white man. If you are going to credit whites for their involvement in slavery try being historically accurate.
-
I don't believe so much as sold as they traded or bartered goods. However, they did this with a different view of how to treat slaves. They did not know that the white man was so cruel.
Additionally, with the exception of the renegade African slave raider Tippu Tip of the Congo (Muslim name, Hamed bin Muhammad bin Juna al-Marjebi) who was collaborating with the White Arabs (also called Red Arabs) there is little documentation of independent African slave raiding.
By independent is meant that there were no credible threats, intoxicants or use of force by Whites to force or deceive the African into slave raiding or slave trading and that the raider himself was not enslaved to Whites at the time of slave raiding or "trading". Trade implies human-to-human mutuality without force.
This was certainly not the general scenario for the TransAtlantic so-called Trade in African slaves. Indeed, it was the Portuguese who initiated the European phase of slave raiding in Africa by attacking a sleeping village in 1444 and carting away the survivors to work for free in Europe.
Even the case of Tippu Tip may well fall into a category that we might call the consequences of forced cultural assimilation via White (or Red) Arab Conquest over Africa. Tippu Tip s father was a White (or Red) Arab slave raider, his mother an unmixed African slave. Tip was born out of violence, the rape of an African woman. It is said that Tip, a "mulatto", was merciless to Africans.
The African so-called slave "trade" was a demand-driven market out of Europe and America, not a supply-driven market out of Africa. -

-
yes and native american chiefs sold tribal members as slaves also!! So get over what happened over a hundred years ago.
-
Some male, and fewer female, slaves held positions of high status and trust within their societies. In precolonial states in the interior of West and Central Africa, slaves often served as soldiers and confidants of high officials. With their necessarily limited ambitions and dependence on their masters, slaves were considered the ideal persons to be close to men in power. In a few cases, female slaves assumed power and influence as well. For example, in the 19th century in the West African Kingdom of Dahomey (now southern Benin), women served in the royal palace and formed the kingdom's soldier elite.
-
However, early African traditions of slavery appear more benign when compared to the institutionalized systems of slave trading that would develop later. As African states began providing slaves for export by Arabs or Europeans, slavery became much more central to the economies and politics of those states and more of a threat to Africans in general.
-
Not true...... darker black men are actually the preference... Scientific data has proven part of the reason for this is actually because darker also meant, stronger, faster, healthier, more fertile. its the same unconscious process that allows us to choose who we "mate with" right now based on certain attributes and what they produce
-
msbass79 my sentiments exactly! Light skinned Black men went out of style OVER 20 years ago, and NEVER made a come-back
-
Around the 15th century BC, Egypt's New Kingdom enslaved non-Africans, such as Jews from Palestine, through warfare and imported them to the Nile Valley. As an African importer of non-African slaves, however, ancient Egypt is a notable exception to the rule. Africa's role in the history of transcontinental slave trading has generally been as a provider or exporter of slaves for use outside of Africa.
After the 5th century BC, Greeks and, later, Romans came to dominate the Mediterranean Sea. Both of these slave-owning powers raided North Africa extensively for slaves. This practice of using Africa as a source of slaves would be adopted and expanded first by Arab Muslims and later by Europeans. -
But why is that? There is no reason for that in my eyes.
-
its based on how slaves were "bred" and also the underlying "house slave" vs 'field slaves". no reason for it now but its one of those genetic blueprints
-
That is absolutely invalid! As a "Black Woman" or whatever people incorrectly label my skin color, DARKER Black men are favored highly by Black women, rather than lighter skinned men! Get your facts right, or better yet, digest yourself in the ACTUAL CULTURE before you make inaccurate statements . . . please and thank you.
-
So Kisi, you speak for all Black women? As one of those light-skin "high-yella" Black men, I know for a fact that's NOT true! Most of the women I've dealt with were darkskined. I've had to deal with our own form of "racism" since birth. I hated my own complexion for many years because of the association with "white" bloodlines. It took much soul searching to realize, as Peter Tosh pointed out, "whether complexion high or complexion low, if you a Black man you a AFRICAN"! Blackness is a state of mind. I've met some coal black WhiteNiccas and some Blacks that could pass as white.

The spread of Islam from Arabia into Africa after the religion's founding in the 7th century AD affected the practice of slavery and slave trading in West, Central, and East Africa. Arabs had practiced slave raiding and trading in Arabia for centuries prior to the founding of Islam, and slavery became a component of Islamic traditions. Both the Qur'an (Koran) (the sacred scripture of Islam) and Islamic religious law served to codify and justify the existence of slavery. As Muslim Arabs conquered their way westward across North Africa in the 7th and 8th centuries, their victorious leaders rewarded themselves with Berber captives, most of whom were eventually enrolled in Muslim armies. Over time, large segments of North Africa's Berber population converted to Islam. The religion spread to the camel herders of the Sahara Desert, who were in contact with black Africans south of the Sahara and who traded small numbers of black slaves. Muslim Arabs expanded this trans-Saharan slave trade, buying or seizing increasing numbers of black Africans in West Africa, leading them across the Sahara, and selling them in North Africa. From there, most of these slaves were exported to far-off Asian destinations such as the eastern Mediterranean, Anatolia (in present-day Turkey), Arabia, Persia (present-day Iran), and India.
-
Women constituted the majority of early African slaves. In addition to agricultural work, female slaves carried out other economic functions, such as trading and cotton spinning and dyeing. They also performed domestic chores, such as preparing food, washing clothes, and cleaning. Powerful African men kept female slaves as wives or concubines, and in many societies these women stood as symbols of male wealth. Male slaves typically farmed and herded animals. Those who belonged to wealthy families and especially of ruling lineages of states also worked as porters and rowers, and learned crafts such as weaving, construction, and metalwork. New slaves were sometimes given menial tasks while experienced slaves did the more difficult and dangerous work, such as mining and quarrying.
-
amen !
-
The trans-Saharan slave trade grew significantly from the 10th to the 15th century, as vast African empires such as Ghana, Mali, Songhai, and Kanem-Bornu developed south of the Sahara and marshaled the trade. Arab slave raiders also penetrated south, up the Nile River to present-day Ethiopia, capturing thousands of slaves and sending them down the Nile to Egypt. Over the course of more than a thousand years, the trans-Saharan slave trade saw the movement of at least 10 million enslaved men, women, and children from West and East Africa to North Africa, the Middle East, and India. The slaves and their descendants contributed to the harems, royal households, and armies of the Arab, Turkish, and Persian rulers in those regions.
-
I concur babyrobert! You are right on point!
-
Also, by the 9th century, seafaring Muslims from Arabia and Persia had made their way down the Indian Ocean coast of East Africa, obtaining African slaves in ports from Mogadishu (in present-day Somalia) to Sofala (in present-day Mozambique) and conveying them to western Asian cities to work. The culture of the East African coastal regions was strongly influenced by Arab and Persian traders, many of whom intermarried with Africans, thus producing the Swahili people and culture. Between the 9th and the 13th centuries, this Arab-Persian-Swahili population established cities and city-states along the East African coast. These cities and states captured or purchased slaves from the East African interior for domestic and agricultural tasks. In the 18th and 19th centuries, as plantation agriculture developed in the region, the East African slave trade increased dramatically.
-
Are the Jews that survived the holocaust and their descendants superior to others? Was intelligence, similarly, bred out of the black man? Are white people smarter because our ancestors left Africa first? How you treat someone is all on you. This is a notion just tantalizing enough that someone who would like it to be true will believe it. It seems like everybody hates stereotypes until one makes them feel good.

The Atlantic slave trade developed after Europeans began exploring and establishing trading posts on the Atlantic (west) coast of Africa in the mid-15th century. The first major group of European traders in West Africa was the Portuguese, followed by the British and the French. In the 16th and 17th centuries, these European colonial powers began to pursue plantation agriculture in their expanding possessions in the New World (North, Central, and South America, and the Caribbean islands), across the Atlantic Ocean. As European demand grew for products such as sugar, tobacco, rice, indigo, and cotton, and as more New World lands became available for European use, the need for plantation labor increased.
-
West and west central African states, already involved in slave trading, supplied the Europeans with African slaves for export across the Atlantic. Africans tended to live longer on the tropical plantations of the New World than did European laborers (who were susceptible to tropical diseases) and Native Americans (who were extremely susceptible to "Old World" diseases brought by the Europeans from Europe, Asia, and Africa). Also, enslaved men and women from Africa were inexpensive by European standards. Therefore, Africans became the major source, and eventually the only source, of New World plantation labor.
-
The Africans who facilitated and benefited from the Atlantic slave trade were political or commercial elites–generally members of the ruling apparatus of African states or members of large trading families or institutions. African sellers captured slaves and brought them to markets on the coast. At these markets European and American buyers paid for the slaves with commodities–including cloth, iron, firearms, liquor, and decorative items–that were useful to the sellers. Slave sellers were mostly male, and they used their increased wealth to enhance their prestige and connect themselves, through marriage, to other wealthy families in their realms.
-
The Africans who were enslaved were mostly prisoners of war or captives resulting from slave raids. As the demand for slaves grew, so did the practice of systematic slave raiding, which increased in scope and efficiency with the introduction of firearms to Africa in the 17th century. By the 18th century, most African slaves were acquired through slave raids, which penetrated farther and farther inland. Africans captured in raids were marched down well-worn paths, sometimes for several hundred miles, to markets on the coast.
-
From the mid-15th to the late-19th century, European and American slave traders purchased approximately 12 million slaves from West and west central Africa. A small percentage of these slaves, particularly in the early years of the trade, were sent to Europe, especially to Spain and Portugal. Most, however, were shipped across the Atlantic for sale in Portuguese-administered Brazil; the British, French, Dutch, and Danish islands of the Caribbean; Spanish-controlled South and Central America; and the British North American mainland (later the United States and Canada). The Atlantic crossing, known as the Middle Passage, was nightmarish for slaves, who were poorly fed, subject to abuses at the hands of the crew, and confined to cramped storage holds in which diseases spread easily. Historians estimate that between 1.5 and 2 million slaves died during the journey to the New World.
-
The Atlantic slave trade differed from previous practices of slavery and slave trading in Africa in its huge scope and its importance to the economies of world powers. While traditional African slavery was practiced largely to help African communities produce food and goods or for prestige, slave labor on European plantations in the New World was crucial to the economies of the colonies and therefore to the economies of the colonial powers. This global economic demand for African slaves altered African practices of slavery. In much of Africa, slavery became a more central, structural element of African life, as rulers and wealthy elites sought to accumulate more and more slaves, for sale as well as for their own use. In addition to the systematic and institutional practice of slave raiding, other practices were introduced in African states to bring in even more slaves, including enslavement as punishment for crimes and religious wrongdoing. As a result, by the 19th century vast numbers of black Africans in West and Central Africa faced the threat of being enslaved.
-
As humanitarian sentiments grew in Western Europe with the 18th-century Age of Enlightenment and as European economic interests shifted slowly from agriculture to industry, a movement to abolish the slave trade and the practice of slavery came into being in the Western world. In 1807 the slave trade was outlawed in Britain and the United States. Britain outlawed the practice of slavery in all British territory in 1833; France did the same in its colonies in 1848. In 1865, following the American Civil War, the U.S. government adopted the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, ending slavery in the United States. The Atlantic slave trade continued, however, until 1888, when Brazil abolished slavery (the last New World country to do so).
-
While the Atlantic slave trade was dying down around 1850, the trans-Saharan and East African slave trades were at their peaks. In the 1850s the Ottoman Empire nominally outlawed slavery in much of the Islamic world, but this had only a minor effect on the slave trade. One of the main justifications European powers gave for colonizing nearly the entire African continent during the 1880s and 1890s was the desire to end slave trading and slavery in Africa. By the dawn of the 20th century, European forces had defeated most African slave trading states, and the trans-Saharan and East African slave trades came to an end.
-
Although colonial authorities began outlawing slavery in some African territories as early as the 1830s, the complete legal abolition of slavery in Africa did not take place until the first quarter of the 20th century. By that time, however, slavery was deeply ingrained in most African societies, and thus the practice continued illegally. Slaves who became liberated often did so by escaping and going to the colonial authorities or by simply leaving the areas in which they had been held to take up residence elsewhere. In some places, enslaved persons held that status throughout their lives, despite the legal prohibition. It was not until the 1930s that slavery in Africa was almost totally eliminated.
-
The ending of the slave trade and slavery in Africa had wide-ranging effects on the African continent. Many societies that for centuries had participated in an economy based on slave labor and the trading of slaves had difficulty finding new ways to organize labor and gain wealth. Meanwhile, colonial governments in Africa that outwardly disapproved of slavery still needed inexpensive laborers for agriculture, industry, and other work projects. As a result, African leaders and former slave owners, as well as colonial officials, often developed methods of coercing Africans to work without pay or for minimal compensation. Moreover, the outlawing of slavery did not erase the pain and stigma of having been a slave. Many descendants of slaves were affected by this stigma for generations after slavery was abolished.
-
I think it was a fair and honest statement that Michael Johnson made about African-Americans having the advantage in most sports because of the institution of slavery. He wasn't condoning it, by no means, but he was saying, just as Jimmy the Greek said, they are genetically better athletes. The abolishment of slavery in America occurred LONG ago. Is it a painful scar on this country and all of its inhabitants, of course. Atrocious acts were also perpetuated against the Native Americans but you don't see them sitting around blaming the white man for everything. At some point, African Americans are going to have to let go of that crutch. It didn't happen to you, if it did then the perpetrators would be swiftly punished. Even though one or more of your descendants may have been slaves, they are slaves no more. They are exalted and loved in the Kingdom of God. For your own mental health black people need to stop that mindset of acting like the victim. Slavery was wrong. We all know that (with the exception of some parts of society, ie. KKK or white supremacists.) All white people in this country cannot continue to cow-tow to you because you feel as though you are oppressed, psychologically and economically disadvantaged, by the white people of today. I didn't own any slaves, that was long ago and should have been laid to rest, but recognized historically for its cruelty and oppression that the slaves had to suffer. There are more opportunities for African Americans at this time than for whites. You can look up and see SO many programs specifically created to serve/help African Americans. From scholarships to racial quotas that put the African American ahead of a white man even though they have the very same credentials. There's housing assistance, welfare, food stamps, medicaid, and if you look at the breakdown of races who receive the benefits the African American has a much higher % than other races. If more African Americans availed themselves of the college scholarships they can qualify for, the face of the "Plight of African-Americans" could be changed FOREVER. I also believe in this day and age that there exists much more black on white racism than than the opposite to be true. If I, as a white woman, were to say something deemed derogatory to a black person (just by voicing my opinion on this site), I would be vilified, lambasted up one side and down the other and labeled a racist; however the African Americans are the ones who are incredibly racist against the white race. You can't listen to a black person without having to hear about how he/she was done wrong by the white man, and other insults based solely on our skin color. Perhaps we ALL need to take a moment and look hard and long at ourselves and our behavior before you start attacking anybody else. We all know the saying, "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" or the great passage from Matthew 7:3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" NIV. I think we all should let bygones be bygones.
-
I donot think it necessarily makes anybody genetically better than another but I do think that it makes us a strong people! We just must break the brands of oppression through education, empowerment, work ethic, collective work and responsibility.

Between the 7th and the 15th century, the trans-Saharan and East African slave trades spurred the gradual expansion of slavery within Africa. The slave trades contributed to the development of powerful African states on the southern fringes of the Sahara and in the East African interior. The economies of these states were dependent on slave trading. Neighboring states competed with one another for trade, leading to wars, which in turn led to the capture of more slaves. Slave raiding in West, East, and Central Africa became more common and wide-ranging. When European explorers and traders arrived in West Africa beginning in the 15th century, they found and began using well-established slave-trade networks. While the trans-Saharan and East African slave trades continued until the early 20th century, they were overshadowed by the Atlantic slave trade after the 15th century. The Atlantic slave trade dwarfed the trans-Saharan and East African trades in terms of volume of export, impact on African practices of slavery, and lasting effect on Africa in general.

And another Uneducated post!!! More jews dies during thier stent in slavery then African slaves! And with that being said they also went through cruel experiments with being sewn together so yea...And why do you think certain black citizens are treated this way, Well lets see everytime something happens they call NAACP or Reverend AL Sharpton! Not every thing tht happens in this world is a white man being racist and the longer people live in that mindset the longer you will stay unhappy! Let me tell you something their are blacks which are still dealing with the effects of slavery today!Psychologicly,Socially, and in some areas eeconomicly!Whole family structures of people were destroyed over years of time, seperated , just psychologiclly allone slavery as a whole was devesating! (Please read Willie Lynch and watch the film amaizing Grace, or Amistad fool!It is not a crutch and it should not be used as .Please don't compare the holocost which happen for a couple of year when the slavery holocost lasted for 500 years and cost 300 millions of lives in the Middle Passage alone. Man shut up! It is easy for people which have never been oppress to say the mess your saying becuase you've never been through it! And it was only 40 years ago that the civil rights bill in this country was signed and blacks in this country were given there rights!Mna white folks in this country have a convenient memory when it comes to their issues, but get conveint amneisia when it comes to the oppression of their brothers and sisters of other ethinicy! It easy to say get over it , you've never been through it! And when nine times of ten your ancestors had something to do with slavery, or even segregation, and Jim Crow. You over yourself man! Black folks were breed like animals man by white planters and slave owners of make them more money! You could marry with out the masters permission! So your comment is very ignorant! Do your research before you speak so foolishly and rashly man! And I respect and support the Jewish people in this country and abraod who suffered in the holocost " We will never forget. But we black people will never forget the oppression we suffered in this country unless it happens again. Go read a book and be quiet man!*( Th Barbados planter Willie Lynch letters to the Virginia planters) Lynchburg,Virginia and the word lynching is still named for him! Don't tell us about oppression man!We desereve to have an up some where look at the NFL., NBA, USATF and look at the ratio of black to white players and see the difference. It might sound crazy and yes it was an ignorant comment and maybe Michael Johnson shouldn't have said it, and but it does add up statistiticly!

elohim70,
Lynchburg was named for John Lynch who founded the city in 1757. John Lynch owned the ferry, which transported people and supplies across the James River. When Lynchburg was chartered (and named) it was considered one of the top three wealthiest cities in the U.S. Why were you under the impression that this wealthy city in this confederate state named Lynchburg after Willie Lynch? At the very least, Willie Lynch may have been a blood relative of John Lynch.
There’s a significant difference between Douglass’ work and Lynch’s work. In addition, Lynch didn’t dispute Douglass’ account of slavery. So, I said all that to say if I were going to take a history lesson on slavery, I’d rather invest my time with Douglass.

In Africa, as in many places around the world, early slavery likely resulted from warring groups taking captives. Such captives were of little use, and often some bother, when kept close to their homes because of the ease of escape. Therefore, they were often sold and transported to more distant places.
Warfare was not the only reason for the practice of slavery in Africa, however. In many African societies, slavery represented one of the few methods of producing wealth available to common people. Throughout the African continent there was little recognition of rights to private landholding until colonial officials began imposing European law in the 19th century. Land was typically held communally by villages or large clans and was allotted to families according to their need. The amount of land a family needed was determined by the number of laborers that family could marshal to work the land. To increase production, a family had to invest in more laborers and thus increase their share of land. The simplest and quickest way to do this was to invest in slaves. To help service this demand, many early African societies conducted slave raids on distant villages. -
What you fail to realize is the wrongs of Black Slavery were never reversed. The slaves were simply set free.. The Jews experienced the holocaust but the holocaust didnt last for 400 years.. The Jews still have their language, their culture, their history.. Black Slaves had to accept Euro-North American culture.. But now... we have our own language, our own culture, our own history.. We dont have to speak correct english, unless we need to. So Fu@K your institution and your Bull$hit Democracy..My ancestors (SLAVES) built this BiTch for FREE.. So guess what??? THIS MUTHAFU@KA IZ MOR MINE THAN URS...BItCh... ANd i AiNt gOiN NO FU@Kn Whr...

There are significantly more whites on welfare than blacks. How much was your check this month?
-

-
That's because there are significantly more whites in America. The percentages don't support your stance.
-
I concur, as of January 2012, statistics show that 61% of white Americans receive welfare benefits and 33% are Black or African American.
-
Blacks are 12% of pop.. Whites are approx 72% of pop. There are roughly 29,900,000 people on welfare. Here are the numbers
39% white 11,661,000
38% black 11,362,000
17% Hispanic 5,083,000 Do the math Einstein 1% separates White from Black Welfare recipients and yet 60% is the population divide.I guess analytical reasoning isn't one of your strong characteristics.Just keep on lyng to yourself. -
Well I Agree with your statement to a extent but the numbers were actually halfed, The white population were tied but I am sorry to say that welfare is always wrongly used by black or whites. Sometimes it is....
-
How about you take a HIKE as well BACK to your OWN country cause America is DEFINITELY not owned by yours! To be quite honest, that "Ebonic Boy" that you think should go back to Africa is probably a descendant of Native Americans . . . and therefore in essence he IS HOME!
-
Everybody has ancestors that come from Africa.
-
You are a D---K!! Like I said before, our heritage was ripped away from us and more than likely we all are more closely related to Native Americans than Africans; so in effect, we are home!
-
You lazy white, ignorant dogs have been receiving welfare for centuries through your white skin privilege and are still too dumb to be rich; still poor white trailer park trash! I'm glad that black people are taking a break from work on welfare--the hardest part about working is having to work with white ignoramuses like you! Where we can't get reparations or justice, there is divine judgment on the U.S. Hey! The Occupy Wall Streeters & Tea Partiers finally know how it feels to be treated as a U.S. slave--makes you angry don't it to be treated like a black person by YOUR OWN RICH WHITE PEOPLE! I'm laughing at your pain now because we are all being treated as Nig*ers & Slaves by Big Corporate AmeriKKKa.
-
And they say white people are racist.
-
What a disgusting and completely racist comment. I find it really disturbing that you want to blame white Americans today for crimes committed long before we were alive. Most of our white ancestors had nothing to do with slavery. And BTW YOUR black ancestors were kidnapping and enslaving each other long before there ever was an America and long before there even the 13 colonies. I have to say you are either just truly a racist asshat or a troll trying to incite other posters into arguments with you. I really don't give a tinkers damn what you think. Howerver, IF this is your TRUE thinking, opinion etc.. go straight ahead and hop a plane or boat or damn well swim rightout of this country and don't let the door hit ya on the ass on the way out!!!
-
Your comments amaze me. Do you know anything about history or do you just speak out of your arse regularly. First Irish Immigrants were treated just as bad and some say worst then African American Slaves. Read the Jungle. At least the "Rich" people weren't grinding you up as food. Second only the very rich owned slaves, another fact not spoken of is that African Americans were not the only slaves. They were a majority but not the only. American Indians were made into slaves and slaughtered and butchered, IMHO American Indians are due far more then African Americans. Also America was not the only country to own slaves, Slavery actually started in the English Colonies and if memory serves me the idea actually came from Asian countries. The difference is America is the only who feels we need to apologize forever. We are the only country that freed African Americans during a war tho. Most Slavery was simply abolished over time and attitudes changing. Also another thing not all Slave owners were were horrible.. some of them disagreed with slavery, and there are written books that prove this. However we are talking about a far different time. Slavery of any form is wrong. I do feel that African Americans should of been allowed to go home once freed, however There was a ship that offered all African Americans free access back to Africa to anyone who wanted to go. No one ever showed up.
There are lots of flaws in ever growing country. However in order to move on we must realize that we are all simply humans and we will all die to get out of life. I am white Irish decent my family was owned by a British Lord. We came to America as white slaves. When they got here they allowed members to be rapped by there African American slaves the women were able to have two children back to back before brutally being murdered for copulating with the African Americans which was deemed a sin. The results were lighter colored slaves to be used in the house and for serving. However, that history is swept under the rug far more. In the end tho the story is the same We all came to this country it really doesn't matter how we got here, if we wish to leave we can, if we want to stay then we have the "responsibility" to leave this world in a better place, I just don't see how hate and dwelling on a past that we didn't live accomplishes anything positive. -
im black and maybe i could agree but i believe in intelligent dialogue and not namecalling. seriously, it discredits your argument.
-
You seem like a know nothing that needs to expand their horizons and meet people outside your racist little clique.

ANd another Ignorant statement... lol
-
Exactly, precisely, and to the point! But, buddy, you sound like you got a chip on your shoulder that
s fixing to break your back. You got to get that hate out of you brother! It will kill you! When you hate, you just hurt yourself. The person, place or thing that you are hating on, don't care if you hate them or not, and are not bothered mentally or physically. You, the hater, is the one being hurt by your own emotions. Break out some of that love you got buried deep down inside of you, and rejoice, and scream Amen! Hallelujah! and Love the **** out of everything and every one, just like Jesus said to do. Carry on Soldier! -
Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today - Ya
Father, father
We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today
Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what's going on
What's going on
Ya, what's going on
Ah, what's going on
In the mean time
Right on, baby
Right on
Right on
Father, father, everybody thinks we're wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply because our hair is long
Oh, you know we've got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
Oh
Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me
So you can see
What's going on
Ya, what's going on
Tell me what's going on
I'll tell you what's going on - Uh
Right on baby
Right on baby

Every one should know that it is you the Jews who is the main blockage and cause why the black man cannot prosper as they should. You was the main buyer, seller and enslaver for black people, all the ships was owned by you,the most and biggest slave farms was and is still yours.so don't sound like you did African people any favors, your intervention till this day is pure distruction and suffering.what every good you think you did,is the bain of the African plight.
-
The "blockage and cause" of anyone in ANY race not being able to prosper today is ignorance. There appears to be plenty of that in many of the posts I am reading this morning. And please understand, I did not say all of the posts. But just to be sure you are clear, if you were offended by my ignorance statement, you probably should be.
Everyone has the right and ability to get an education and prosper today. If you don't, part of the blame goes to you. And the next few statements are for everyone of every race, "The family unit is the most important thing, next to God, to allow one to prosper in this world. And that doesn't mean giving birth to as many you can possibly get the government to pay for. It means Mom, Dad, and children all living under God, Indivisible to make it in the world."
Just look at the hate, even these posts have shown. If there is so much hate around us, we certainly need our family as shelter. Some of your posts have not made me sad to be an American; they have made me sad that you call yourselves Americans. We can't make it without our families staying together. A family staying together requires people to make smart decisions. But now, after reading many of the posts, I can see why our families are in danger.
Again, if I offended anyone, It was likely you who I was trying to get the point across to. -
WOW ******* you are as ignorant as all the other racist whites and blacks on here.... lol I was going to give you a history lesson but I am sure your little tiny brain could not register it... But I feel sorry if you ever reproduce because your children will be plagued with one dumbass father... lol Kudos to you.... Keep racism alive.... thats all your doing...
-
Im not a racist, bigot, or a slave owner, but of mixed native american, welsh, and irish descent. If I found that my kind or ancestors were the ones who sold me into slavery, I would be mad at them, not the one who bought me. Just makes more sense to me.
-
Bottom line, the Africans started Slavery, and the Europeans ended it. Slavery still exists illegally on the African continent today. Until all peoples realize that slavery is wrong, it will still be practiced.
-
Ugh, you were making such a strong argument and then it devolved into...that.
If we want equal treatment, respect, and opportunities we need to stay calm and continue down the right(eous) path and work to change racism.
This only perpetuates it and tells them that what they think about us is true. -
Clinton2016, how about responding to the coherent, rational arguments rather than buying into the angry rants?? I'll teach you something African-Americans have (tried) to teach their children and grand-children for years . . . try to ignore the hate and love God. Responding to the bad only fuels the "bad" fire.
-
You are so right resipsa. skrewdworld was on the "strong argument" track, but then got derailed. And if he/she "really don't give a tinkers damn what you think," I would suspect they wouldn't have even responded in such a way.
-
resipsa, there comes a point in time in life where Black people should stop being concerned with what White people think of them. You cant change these people's perception. This is especially difficult to say because I am AA, NA and French American and I identify with just being Brown. Those people (isn't that racist) have done some **** in their history, DIRTY HISTORY, they dont attempt to clean up their image so neither should we. Dont let the media perpetuate situations and what you believe! Rest-assured MANY PALE SKINS have done a TON of damage, crime, corruption, violence, genocide and mass murder greater than any "Brown" person has
-
You can't really make a good point when you start off by throwing everybody into categories.
-
This is the third "IGNORANT" response from you that I've come across and, for the life of me, I can't figure out why it is so hard for you to at least use a spell checker. Oh well...
-
puhahahahahahaha!!!! right!!! #spellcheckfordummies
-
I think its because he is more focused on his ignorant racist comments then trying to show just a glimmer of smarts... Im white mixed with a little bit of everything and race doesnt make you smart, neither does all the hate Clinton2016, Its sad that you are the reason America is falling apart... I joined the Military right out of highschool and I never said I am only going to defend the whites of America or the blacks of America, I said I would defend the UNITED states of America, You would have anything in this day and age with out having both whites and blacks. In alot of places we work as a team... So do everyone in this post a favor a just delete you account and save us from your cancer in which you speak!!!
-
Cindyt, the continent of Africa, which is twice the size of the U.S., has all sides. American media tends to focus on the extreme poverty and strife (which is worthy of attention) mostly because it brings viewership. The fact is there are also millions of people living in on that continent with very mundane middle-class, working-class lives that probably isn't much different from yours. You must subscribe to American Exceptionalism thinking. I, myself, believe in the power of American ingenuity and the strength of its multiculturism . . . . Exceptionallism (even if it were true) tends to leave too many of us with too many "blind-spots" when it comes to assessing other nations and cultures.
btw -- have you ever been to or traveled through any countries in Africa?? -
This is the most intellectual response/post I have read on here! Thank you for posting and I am pretty sure he/she HASN'T been to the continent
-
so TRUE.
-
Where do YOUR people originate from? Don't say America, cause that's not true! How about you check the conditions of your ancestors country and see how well off YOUR life would be there . . .
-
I'm A Real Native And My whole ancestry is based on this continent. Not all of us come from a forgion country. To say there are no real natives shows how uninformed you are!!!
-
I will repeat my previous statement regarding ignorance...yours is palpable. "Kiss a whitey everyday of life for bringing your ancestors here." You don't even believe that statement.
The conditions of Africa were the very reasons traders sought to demolish a nation. Resources such as PEOPLE, gold and oil existed. Egypt is a part of Africa; scientific advancement, mathematics, etc. were far more advanced than other region.
When you say "hate filled piece of trash" you might as well look in the mirror. It is sad that your sentiments and lack of education might be passed on to others.
Hang in there buddy, thre is hope for you yet!
Take a step back. We are all products of the legacy of slavery. You too should feel very blessed you live in the land of freedom of speech...but remember where "thought" began...in the great nation of Africa, and so did you.
-
As you should know, things is the way they are because of your greedy and evil ancestors who was always looking for other peoples stuff to steal. We would have been better off had yours not intervene in our humble lives.Africa has it all and it is the outsiders who are bent on stealing and murduring just to have it.Just about every black person know what happen and yet we refrain from acting the fool knowing that we shall over come some day.
-
just another mad stupid statement. you are no beter then the person your talking abt. right when someone makes apoint ppl like you come and blow it. Diff ethnic groups made america what it is today....telling someone to go back to africa is just crazy. He could say the same to me or you...think abt it.
-
your comments posted is why racism exist, because your a racist so don't complain if others don't like you back and call them racist.
You make your comments and call each other N***R and then when some kid repeats what they learned from overhearing you and you friends, you complain they come from a racist, I don't use that language or word. I do explain that it's a word that's used by the most ignorant people to great each other and is not used by persons of intelligence. -
can't disagree with you danamo but just like you would not want to be stereotyped (I suspect), I would caution you stereotyping a culture or race of people based upon the angry, baiting expressions of one or more persons.
