Gabby Douglas reveals her celebrity crush
Nearly everything has been going perfectly for Gabby Douglas, who won the gold medal in the individual women's all-around gymnastics and team competition at the London Games. But there is one thing that isn't working out as she hoped -- her celebrity crush.
On Wednesday, Douglas shared with US Weekly 25 things that most people don't know about her. Number 20 on the list was that actor Ian Somerhalder is her celebrity crush.
Somerhalder, who stars on "The Vampire Diaries," and the rest of the show's cast filmed a message expressing their support of Douglas after learning that she was a fan of the show:
"All of us are big fans of you," Somerhalder says in the video, before later blowing her a kiss.
The video must have made Gabby's day ... until she found out the bad news that Somerhalder is dating his co-star on the show, Nina Dobrev.
Little details like that won't stand in Douglas' way of locking down her favorite man, however.
"I'll show him my gold medal. You never know!" she jokingly told US Weekly.
Douglas is hoping to meet the cast when she returns home to the states.
"It's amazing and to think I'm part of their little group now is so cool!" Douglas told Us. "They tweeted at me. You know you've finally made it when the stars are tweeting at you. They're backing me up."
She's also hoping to meet Oprah Winfrey, Holly Robinson Peete, and Chilli.
Between Douglas receiving a message from her favorite show's cast, Missy Franklin hearing from Justin Bieber, and Michael Phelps exchanging tweets with his favorite rappers, we're seeing that the Olympics are connecting athletes and celebrities on a regular basis. That's just one of the rewards for the athletes after spending years training for competition.

Why does everything have to be about a romantic relationship. Of course, he would like to meet her. I would like to meet her, not to engage in romance with her as I am much older than her, but to congratulate her for her gold medal and representing America with class, good sportsmanship and a terrific smile.

The whole story was going well until you got ignorant in the end. What does Nina having great hair have anything to do with the story, or Gabby meeting her crush. These are the comments that continue to manifest itself into little sidebars of conversation. Is this the "show must go on" indirect comments about her hair? Fwiw, Sammy Sosa isn't doing the "conk"(i.e. relaxer); like many black Hispanics, he has naturally curly hair. And due to our deeply ingrained racial mixtures not all blacks have the same features. Many darker-skinned American blacks have Caucasian, Indian, Asian and Hispanic bloodlines that are reflected in their SMALLER NOSES (for those who have them) and/or thinner lips and/or naturally curly, wavy or straight hair, and/or colored (i.e., non-dark-brown) eyes.
Conversely, many light-skinned blacks have classically "negroid" - and still beautiful - features. Furthermore, not all light-skinned blacks are biracial and not all dark-skinned blacks have dark-skinned parents. Don't lump all blacks together, because our looks are as diverse as any offered by white folks. -
If you are a black man, I am an elephant's trunk. For goodness sakes, why can't people like you stand up for what you are. No black person of any century, at any time has expressed themselves the way you do, which is distinctly white. Please, choose another ethnic group to insult, but rest assured, everyone knows you are white. Besides the lack of black finesse in your writing, nobody black says, "FYI I'm a black man." That having been said, I am a little concerned that this gaffe might offend black men and start her 15-minute clock. Black women who have crushes on white men are seen as "sellouts", fairly or unfairly.
But she will still get those Essence, Jet, Ebony, and even Black Enterprise Magazine covers for now. After all, plenty of famous black women date and marry white men these days. -

I would rather see her hair worn like she is wearing it, than any long "not her real hair"extensions in unnatural colors flying all in her face like some do. She'll eventually be relieved when she realizes she isn't as superficial as the showbiz crowd and saved herself a lot of grief by not hooking up in the prime of her young life with a pretty boy actor. She deserves someone who shares her passion for personal achievement at an Olympic level, not some hollyweird type. Sorry but I do think Gabby is at a rare level of achievement that is far and above what's his name again?
