Why no comments about all the laughter from such a pompous UK crowd? Serena's "Crip Dance" was supposedly soooo "offensive" to these uptight class conscious prudes I doubt it was an accident. The Brits are so jealous of the US and are experts in covert retaliation.

Not only did I find it horrific seeing our flag fall to the ground during our national anthem, even more so during those specific words.... The laughing that could be heard..... the decision to continue on withou the flag flying.... But as I watched and heard Bod Costas comment about it just being a "Piece of Cloth". Sorry Bob it is more than a piece of cloth!!!! That is insulting to me... It is a symbol of the blood, sweat and tears that formed this country. That is part of what is wrong with our country today... the flag use to mean something. Bob did it again a thoughtless comment.... but sadly I feel it represents what to many American think about our country or should I say don't give a though about .

A very unfortunate incident. Not intentional though, not like some places in the world where they burn our flag. A piece of cloth! Bob Costas, really..

Reminds me of the poem, The English Flag, by Rudyard Kipling about such an incident over a 100 years ago. It reads:

We must always look at our flag in the context of what it represents.

Another flag flub by the Brits. Absolutely intentional. They made sure the other two flags were secured to the poles .Their lack of respect is horrendous. The Brits are very much aware of what the flag means to the Americans and how much the Stars Spangled Banner and the flag are intertwined. Then to scoop it up and roll it in a ball. Disgusting. I agree the ceremony should have been stopped and a new flag raised. They might think they are so noble but they lack a whole lot of class.

the brits should never be allowed to hold another olympics ever ... they have destroyed the integrity and enjoyment of the games. to not secure the flag of a country to a flag pole , no matter what country, is a disgrace ... i will be so glad when these games are over so the brits can be told how bad they sucked ... OMG NUKE 'EM!!! Relax people, this is nothing more than a minor unfortunate incident. The way so many of you are screeching is an embarrassment to our country & far more disrespectful than our flag unintentionally touching the ground.

Being upset about the flag is understandable. But the fact she did a dance called the C-Dance which is done by Crip gang members on the streets probably should be something people should be a bit yupset about also!

First, the Flag didn't make it all the way to the ground, what NBC isn't showing is a BRITT went over and picked it up from the platform behind the announcers and wadded it up in a ball and walked off with it-working for Olympic committee, of course.

Does it happen to bother anyone that Bob Costas said Serena Williams quote, which was the flag probably just wanted to come give her a hug bcuz it was so happy for her, BUT then he threw in as happy as a PIECE OF CLOTH CAN BE...I take more pride in my Flag then that.

NBC also when they played the scene of our Flag falling, didn't want to play it but bcuz it was hitting YouTube and other sites had to. I have it recorded. If U watch it, they play it out of sync. When Serena is pointing and laughing, that's not when the Flag falls, its later when she tilts her head and gives a sad face. And if U look at the Flag, its not secure all the way across from the beginning but the others are. The point being, NBC can turn things around and make derogatory remarks about our Flag, and even air things out of sync so it makes one of our Olympians look like they're disrespecting our country. They don't tell the things that the other countries are or could be doing. They allow one of their newscasters (using term loosely) to disrespect our Flag, our Olympians, and in turn our Country and nobody does anything about it. I already emailed NBC. Just writing a gripe on these little Blogs isn't enuf. Don't we owe it to our Olympians, and to atleast everyone who has fought for our FLAG that its not just a piece of cloth...NBC.com THEY JUST DONT HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIE AND DEMEAN just bcuz they're the Media.
